Sewing bed linen as a business from A to Z. Sewing bed linen at home - business plan. How to open a bed linen boutique

  • Date of: 27.06.2023

Bed linen is one of the most popular products on the market. A wide range of different products, from sheets to blankets, allows you to open stores with a large number of positions, different manufacturers and prices. In addition, such a product is one of the most popular gifts, which is also important, because as you know, there is never too much bed linen in a house.

In this article we will look at how to open a bed linen store in your city, find out what you need to focus on and how to make a profit.

The main advantages of such a store:

There are various manufacturers on the modern market. Domestic and Chinese goods are in greatest demand; sets from Europe (Italy, France, etc.) are less in demand. 85% of products sold fall into the cheap and medium segment of bed linen. If we talk about classification, it can be designated as follows:

  • low price segment - up to $30;
  • middle price class – $30 – $80;
  • elite sets – from $80 and above.

There is no point in buying luxury bed linen, but it is more likely to be done by those people who care about the brand. Our and Chinese manufacturers are working towards the low and medium price segment.

Documentation

To officially trade in bed linen, you will need to complete a number of documents and obtain permission from inspection services.

Here is a list of what you will need:

  • open IP.
  • indicate OKVED for the activity. For Russia this is code 52.41.1. For Ukraine – code 51.41.0.
  • recruit staff.
  • enter into a lease agreement for the premises.
  • have quality certificates for the goods on hand.
  • decorate the buyer's corner.
  • obtain work permits from the SES and fire service.

This is the basic documentation necessary to run your business. But to be sure that all the paperwork is completed correctly, we advise you to contact an experienced lawyer for qualified assistance.

Room

If you consider selling bed linen as a serious business, then in order to be successful you need to be very careful about choosing a suitable retail location.

The list of the most attractive places includes:

  • well-promoted shopping centers that accommodate married couples.
  • manufactured goods markets with a large number of visitors.
  • Shopping centers in residential areas.

It is worth noting here that the price segment of the goods sold will depend on the format of the shopping center.

The area of the room must be from 15 sq.m. and higher. Still, the assortment provided at such points is quite voluminous and you need to somehow present it beautifully to visitors.

To open a bed linen department, you will also need special commercial equipment. Usually it consists of several structural elements.

  • racks with shelves.
  • glass showcase.
  • exhibition stands.
  • racks and hangers. In case of selling sleepwear.
  • coffee table with a catalog of products to order.
  • cash machine.
  • furniture for the seller's workplace + office equipment.

An important point is the design of the room. Here you need to use light structures and light colors, since the atmosphere in the department should be associated with sleep and home comfort. Pay special attention to the lighting of display cases and shelves. The presentation of the product should be given special importance, combine different color schemes, design stands with discounts, etc.

Product range

Even at the initial stage of drawing up a business plan for a bed linen store, it is important to analyze the competition and understand which product items are selling well, and what it is better to refrain from buying at the start. Usually, when opening a retail outlet, starting capital is limited, and you don’t want to buy goods that will then gather dust on the shelves. We can make one recommendation. You can go to the most popular online stores selling lingerie and look through the category, trending or popular products. Having written out the main positions, you will ultimately have a general picture of what is currently in demand on the market and these models will definitely be popular.

If we consider the popularity of materials, they can be placed in the following order: cotton, linen, satin and silk. These materials are sold differently depending on the season. For example, linen bedding works better in summer, but terry linen in winter. Based on this seasonality, you can plan your assortment.

The second point when compiling an assortment for a store is the company and country of manufacture. We have already written above that domestic and Chinese products sell well because they charge a price. But you should also have foreign brands in your assortment, for example Turkish or European underwear.

Also pay attention to such popular goods as children's bedding. People buy it all the time, and here, too, you need to ensure a good selection.

Your task is to ensure that a customer who enters your store can choose the item that interests him. And this is ensured by the availability of goods of various price segments and varied designs.

In addition to the main category of goods, you can add: pillows and blankets, sleepwear, towels, home perfumes and other related products.

Suppliers

The choice of supplier will determine how much you will earn by opening a bed linen business. There are many suppliers, and almost all of them are intermediaries from factories, with their own markup on the goods.

When purchasing domestically produced goods, it is best to go directly to the manufacturing plants. This way, you can get a good discount and avoid intermediaries and set a competitive retail price tag.

If we are talking about European brands or Chinese products, then you cannot do without intermediaries and you will have to work with them.

When concluding a supply contract, stipulate the terms. For example, if you buy large volumes of goods in the future, can you count on a discount?

Advertising

Advertising is the engine of sales. This market segment is no exception. In addition to the walk-through shopping center and a bright sign, you can use other sales methods, for example, distributing leaflets, banners and advertisements in the media.

If you work in a large city, then it is quite possible to sell bed linen online. You can start such a business by publishing offers on bulletin boards and social networks. In the future, you can create an online store and use search engine promotion and contextual advertising.

Run promotions and issue loyalty cards at a discount. These methods work well and will ensure that customers return to you again and again.

How much money do you need to start?

When making calculations for a bed linen store, you need to take into account absolutely all costs in order to really understand when your investment will pay off and you will start earning money.

Starting investments:

  • purchase of equipment – $3000 – $3500
  • paperwork – $200
  • corporate identity – $180
  • starting purchase of goods – $8000 – $1000

In addition to starting investments, in your business plan, indicate the monthly costs of maintaining this business.

Monthly expenses:

  • rent for the premises - $15 - $20 per 1 sq.m.
  • utility bills – from $25
  • taxes – $120
  • salary – from $250 per seller.
  • advertising – $90
  • replenishment of product range – from $2000
  • unplanned expenses – $150

To save on start-up capital, you can buy used equipment. But here it is important to look at his condition. Also, at first you don’t have to hire a seller and work on your own. This will reduce the cost of running a business.

How much can you earn?

Let's start with the fact that the average markup percentage in this business is about 50% - 60%.

You can sell 5 – 20 items per day, with an average receipt of $30. We get about $75 minus the purchase price. About $2250 per month. Subtract monthly expenses - $1000 - $1100 net income.

Conclusions. Trading bed linen is a fairly promising business idea, but you need to carefully study the competition and, first of all, rely on the cheap segment of products. Connect various advertising methods, including online sales.

In an unfavorable financial situation, many find a way out in earning money on their own. One of the interesting ideas for owning your own business is sewing and selling bed linen. We present to your attention a brief overview of some aspects of this matter in order to assess your capabilities and the rationality of engaging in this business.

Pros and cons of this type of income

Without much preamble, let us present the positive aspects of this matter.

  1. Business - bed linen for sale - requires virtually no initial investment. The equipment you need to have on hand is a regular sewing machine. Materials: threads, fabric, accessories. As for the premises, you can work at home.
  2. Sewing bed linen does not require much time. Also, minimal knowledge of cutting and sewing techniques is sufficient.
  3. The work will bring not only material benefits, but also moral satisfaction thanks to the wide field for creativity and self-expression in the process of selecting fabrics, textures and colors. More skilled craftswomen can experiment with patterns and decoration of bed linen.

The main disadvantage is, after all, the business side of the issue: registering and running an individual business, calculating and reducing costs, searching for suppliers of quality fabrics. The question immediately arises: to whom and how to sell bed linen. All these “little things” need to be worked out in advance, perhaps with the help of specialists.

Standard product range

There are the following categories of bed linen sets.

  1. Single set. It is designed for 1 adult, has 1 sheet measuring 110 x 200 cm, 1 duvet cover - 135 x 200 cm and 1 pillowcase - 50 x 70 cm or 70 x 70 cm.
  2. One and a half set. It consists of 1 sheet measuring 150 x 220 cm, 1 duvet cover - 145 x 215 cm and 2 pillowcases - 50 x 70 cm or 70 x 70 cm.
  3. The double set is designed for 2 adults. Here we have 1 sheet measuring 185 x 220 cm, 1 duvet cover - 175 x 215 cm, 2 pillowcases - 50 x 70 cm or 70 x 70 cm.
  4. Family set, which is designed for 2 adults sleeping on the same bed under different blankets. Available: 1 sheet size 200 x 220 cm, 2 duvet covers - 150 x 220 cm, 2 pillowcases - 50 x 70 cm or 70 x 70 cm.
  5. Euro standard set. This includes 1 sheet measuring 220 x 220 cm, 1 duvet cover - 200 x 220 cm and 2 pillowcases - 50 x 70 cm or 70 x 70 cm.
  6. Children's bedding (convenient to use for a teenager's bed). The set contains 1 sheet measuring 110 x 190 cm, 1 duvet cover - 110 x 180 cm and 1 pillowcase - 50 x 70 or 70 x 70 cm.
  7. Sets for babies in a crib (1 sheet size 140 x 110, 1 duvet cover - 145 x 110, 1 pillowcase - 40 x 60).

The parameters of the kits according to different sources may deviate from the data above. Manufacturers of bed linen must indicate their dimensions on the packaging. This will make it easier for the buyer to make a choice.

Product options

Kits may be standard. It is also possible to tailor bed linen to order according to the client’s measurements.

Sets can be everyday or gift. They differ in fabric and packaging. The cost of the gift version is much more expensive than the working version of the product. Therefore, before producing it, it is advisable to first take care of the possibility of marketing this product.

Selection of fabrics for sewing everyday bedding sets

The quality of the finished product largely depends on what fabric is chosen for sewing bed linen.

For the everyday kit, the following working materials are selected:

  • Satin is a cotton fabric to which chemical fibers can be added. It has a smooth, dense surface and is durable (products can withstand up to 300 washes). There are varieties of this fabric: gloss-satin and mako-satin.
  • Calico is a thick cotton fabric. Very practical and environmentally friendly material. It does not lose its brightness for a long time and does not wrinkle. At the same time, the fabric is relatively cheap.
  • Ranfors - high quality calico, 100% natural fabric (cotton). The material is soft, delicate, yet incredibly durable and practical. It has an amazing ability to adapt to the surrounding temperature: in winter this linen is warm, and in summer it is cool.
  • Polycotton. The fabric contains cotton and synthetic thread, which makes it strong and wear-resistant. When washed, it practically does not shrink, does not fade or wrinkle. Hygiene and durability have made this fabric very popular among housewives.
  • Chintz is a good durable fabric that does not require special care. Thanks to this, it greatly facilitates housewives’ housework. It is optimal in terms of price-quality ratio.
  • Linen is a natural and environmentally friendly fabric. Absorbs moisture very well with simultaneous high breathability and heat transfer. A good quality, wear-resistant fabric with some rigidity. It starches well. When washed, it shrinks and wrinkles.
  • Flannel is a warm and soft cotton fabric, usually lightly brushed. The material is very pleasant to the touch and warms well. Suitable for children's bedding sets intended for use in the autumn-winter period.
  • Terry fabric - cotton jersey. It is distinguished by its softness and pleasant structure. As a rule, it is used only for sewing high-quality terry sheets. The products are durable and easy to care for, as they do not require ironing after washing.

Sewing more expensive headsets

You can make an elegant holiday set for sale (gift, wedding, anniversary). In this case, any fabric described below will be suitable for sewing bed linen.

  1. Silk is one of the most expensive natural materials. Very beautiful, light and durable, it is ideal for sewing luxury bed linen. In addition to the aesthetic side, silk is an environmentally friendly material and hygienic. Caring for such bed linen requires care and some skills.
  2. Satin is a lightweight, beautiful cotton fabric. The front side is smooth, shiny, cool to the touch. The inside is matte, slightly rough. The material practically does not fade and can be used for a long time. Ideal for sewing luxurious bed linen.
  3. Batiste is the lightest, transparent, flowing fabric. The bed linen turns out airy and fabulously beautiful. Not intended for everyday use. Has medium strength. The set can withstand up to 70 machine washes without compromising its appearance.

As an option, you can use velor, jacquard, or tapestry to sew luxury bed linen.

Considering the high cost of luxury fabrics, it is first better to carry out exclusive tailoring of bed linen to order. You need to provide quality assurance to the potential buyer.

How to sell bed linen?

The most important thing for business success is finding distribution channels. Even the most beautiful and high-quality sets will not bring profit if they lie like dead weight in a warehouse. Therefore, profitable and stable sale of bed linen is very important.

Potential points of sale could be:

  • shops, wedding salons;
  • hospitals, sanatoriums, various social institutions (prisons, orphanages, kindergartens, boarding schools);
  • children's camps and holiday homes;
  • hotels and hostels.

You can also make business cards, advertising brochures and distribute them to friends, employees, and in general to anyone who wants to. The simplest thing is to place an ad on the Internet, in a newspaper, in transport, in any public place (shop, clinic, library) or simply post it on the street.

Cost reduction

There are some ways to reduce costs when sewing bed linen.

  1. Buy fabrics not from retail stores, but from wholesalers.
  2. If there is a need to rent industrial premises, then you should look for options not within the city, but in nearby settlements. Rent outside the city is several times lower.
  3. Set employees' salaries as a percentage of a well-completed order. This minimizes losses from material damage and downtime.
  4. For small production volumes, establish sales directly to the end buyer without the intermediary services of a store.

Trademark

Create your own brand. The product name should be succinct, memorable, not too long, and with positive associations. It can be carefully embroidered in the corner of a sheet or duvet cover. The brand must be placed on the front of the packaging and in advertising brochures.

When promoting your products on the market, tell them that this brand is high-quality domestically produced underwear made from natural, environmentally friendly fabrics. There is no need to focus the buyer’s attention on the fact that you have been sewing bed linen yourself since yesterday. In the end, what difference does it make who, where and when makes it? The main thing is that the kits are to the consumer’s liking, so that your conscience for the quality of the products is clear.

If your small production idea grows into a serious business, the brand will become recognizable. Then you can safely say that you have been delighting customers with serious products of the highest quality on the market for more than 10 years!

A few more ideas for making money at home without starting capital

Fabric waste from the manufacture of bed linen can be put into use and sewing can be organized:

  • baby diapers;
  • products for babies - caps, vests, rompers;
  • doll bedding for children's toy stores;
  • clothes for baby dolls;
  • canvas handbags;
  • aprons and kitchen towels.

Instead of an afterword

There are a huge number of bed linen manufacturers whose quality is trusted without further ado or persuasion. For example, Fomtextile, EpitekS, First, Camille and many others. If you study information about this type of company and take it into account, then your business can only be envied.

It is known that people who know how to master a sewing needle have enjoyed universal respect since ancient times.

Handicrafts (such as sewing and embroidery) have always been important, since clothing is a basic necessity for humans, no less necessary than food or water.

Hence, it is not surprising that many entrepreneurs have chosen tailoring as a niche for doing business. Currently, there are a huge number of brands and brands offering their products to consumers. But it is very difficult to take your place in this area.

How to choose a profitable niche for business?

Today, the service market offers tailoring for both the general public and exclusive individual models for wealthy clients. In addition, we manufacture accessories and much more. There are millions of new and old ideas for entrepreneurs.

But if you rely not only on fashion trends, it becomes clear that in the everyday life of every person there is another very important place - this is his personal space for relaxation. Everyone knows the feeling of joy and peace experienced after a day of work on beautiful linens in your favorite bed. If you think about it, every person, regardless of gender and age, has several sets of bed linen. Therefore, clothing and food are not the only things people need in everyday life. Then it is logical to consider sewing bed linen as a business. Where to begin?

To organize any business, including sewing bed linen at home, a business plan is essential. But don’t rush to spend all your available funds. Before compiling it and detailed calculation of all expenses and income, you need to find out whether the production of bed linen is a quickly paying off business with high profits.

Profitability assessment

According to statistics, more than 50 million Russian families use up to seven sets of bed linen. Sales growth is growing year by year, averaging 25%. Russian manufacturers are the absolute market leaders. Almost 75% of consumers use their products. Türkiye and China are less popular among Russians. Expensive bed linen from Italian brands is purchased much less frequently, and even then most often as a gift.

It becomes clear that sewing bed linen for sale is very profitable. With high demand, this type of activity has little competition, which means that sewing bed linen as a business will bring good profits to the entrepreneur and will quickly pay for itself. Another advantage is that its organization requires a minimum of equipment.

Stages of organizing the production of bed linen at home

Producing bed linen at home does not require specific cutter skills. But when organizing larger-scale production, such specialists are needed. Sewing bed linen is a fairly simple type of manual labor.

All sets are made according to patterns established by European standards, which is why it compares favorably with tailoring, which is famous for its variety of models and sizes. The technology of sewing bed linen itself is simple. It can be divided into several stages: laying out patterns on fabric, cutting, sewing with processing of the edges of the product and wet-heat treatment of the finished sleeping set.

For entrepreneurs who decide to start sewing bed linen at home, a business plan can be calculated faster and much easier if you seek the help of specialists. But here you need to decide in what volume you are going to produce the selected products. Please note that the costs of sewing bed linen production on a factory scale differ significantly in the amount of financial investments.

Fabric selection

According to marketing research, Russian consumers, when purchasing bed linen, give the greatest preference to fabrics made from natural raw materials. These include cotton (calico), linen, silk and satin. Calico linen occupies a leading place in sales on the Russian market. As you know, calico is a cotton fabric characterized by a very dense weave of threads.

This material is practical to use, since it is not subject to deformation during repeated washing, and the pattern applied to the fabric does not fade or fade during ironing and other wet-heat treatment. Calico, unlike other natural fabrics, practically does not wrinkle.

Bed linen made of cotton fabric is hypoallergenic and comfortable to use, and if you take into account its low market price, it becomes clear that this is the undisputed leader in sales, and the demand for it is unlikely to decrease.

What determines whether your business will be highly profitable?

From social survey data it follows that more than half of Russian residents, when buying bed linen for personal use, give preference to domestic manufacturers. High demand and relatively little competition in this market segment allow us to confidently say that the production of bed linen is a business with a fairly large profit received in a short period of time. So where to start this highly profitable activity? How to sew bed linen for sale?

Required Documentation

First, you need to register with the nearest tax office as an individual entrepreneur by filling out the appropriate documents and selecting the required tax system. It should be remembered that sewing bed linen as a business must be legal. After receiving a certificate of registration by the tax authority, you can begin purchasing the necessary equipment.

To sew bed linen at home, you must have household equipment - a sewing machine, an overcasting unit (overlock) and an ironing iron.

To establish a business with high profitability, you should not save on sewing equipment.

But that is not all. It must be remembered that sewing bed linen as a business at home and within a large enterprise has significant differences both in the preparation of documents in all required authorities, and in material costs for equipment and rental of premises.

  • Paperwork

Selling bed linen is a business that does not require significant investment. This is a great option for ensuring a stable income. In pursuit of creativity, many simply do not pay attention to this business, which determines the demand for products. But to open a bed linen store from scratch, you need to follow a certain algorithm. This will help organize the business quickly and without financial losses.

Concept Definition

Where to start organizing your own bed linen business? You immediately need to decide on the premises. Here, many sources and experts claim that you can open a store in a small space. But in reality, bedding requires a spacious room. This is due to several reasons:

  1. Providing space for visitors. A small room creates a feeling of discomfort and does not allow you to comfortably choose linens and reduces the store’s capacity.
  2. The need to place the assortment, preferably in a partially expanded form.
  3. The need for utility and storage facilities.

The ideal option to open a bed linen store would be to rent space in a shopping center. This is from 50 to 150 m2.

Now you need to decide on the design. Here it is advisable to create a non-standard interior; it will attract customers in itself. You can look for ideas for this on the Internet or contact designers. For the rented premises, you should order practical decorations that can be easily dismantled. This will allow you to change the scenery frequently, which will significantly enhance the marketing effect. This feature of a business must be immediately thought through when organizing from scratch. Not only the discovery should be interesting, but also the further activity.

It is not necessary to sell ready-made sets of underwear; you can display samples of fabrics, but at the same time sew them yourself. This service makes it possible to produce non-standard underwear to order, which will expand business opportunities and attract customers. But for this it will be necessary to equip special workplaces for tailors. You can also enter into a private contract with seamstresses.

How much do you need to invest to open a business?

On average, opening a bed linen store from scratch will require about 2,000,000 rubles. This amount will include the following expense items:

  • Renting premises.
  • Production of decorations and decorations.
  • Purchase of racks for ready-made kits.
  • Purchase of special equipment for samples of fabrics from which bedding of our own production will be made.
  • Purchasing a cash register
  • Purchase of furniture and necessary household appliances.
  • Installing a computer to optimize the workflow - keep records of sales and to whom, when the store should transfer finished orders.
  • Advertising campaign. These are local methods: billboards, city lights, local print media, radio stations, banners.

Moreover, the assortment will cost approximately 500,000 out of 2,000,000 rubles. But before filling your store with goods, you should carefully study the local market, assortment and prices of competitors. It is advisable to offer something new to the buyer at the opening. This will attract the attention of consumers. It wouldn't hurt to offer promotional discounts. To form a client base and start word of mouth, you should let the boutique operate at a loss for some time - make prices lower than those of competitors by 20-30%.

It should be noted that the above calculation is a template and in a small town it will be cheaper to open a store, but in a metropolis such as Moscow or St. Petersburg it will be much more expensive. With almost the same cost of equipment, the cost of renting premises plays a significant role here.

Before opening a store, you need to take care of the staff. Here you should recruit people who have experience in this field or train them. Bed linen requires knowledge of types of textiles; you must be prepared to train staff from scratch.

Why is it better to rent a room?

Renting is the best option to open a store. The reason is that it is quite easy to find a suitable area in a shopping center or just in the city. Renting partially eliminates inspections. For example, the owner of the area must ensure fire safety: keep primary fire extinguishing equipment in readiness and monitor the serviceability of the fire alarm system.

Attention! When drawing up a lease agreement, you should work it out from “a” to “z” and, if possible, add the necessary clauses that will help avoid problems and conflict situations. Tenants often offer clients flexible terms and are accommodating when drawing up a contract. You need to defend your interests, then the store or other earning option will be profitable.

Paperwork

To open a store, you need to register it with the fiscal authorities - register an individual entrepreneur. Where to start obtaining the status of an individual enterprise? First, you need to think about what taxation system the store will be subject to. The optimal ones here would be the simplified taxation system (Simplified taxation system) or UTII (Single tax - a fixed amount that does not depend on income). But the second option does not apply to all types of activities. Here it is better to consult a specialist.

The opening of an individual entrepreneur will take 5 working days and for this you will need the following documents:

  1. Application for registration of individual entrepreneurs - form No. P21001. This is a 5-page document where you must indicate OKVED. According to the new 2019 classifier, this is 52.41.1 - retail trade of textile products.
  2. A receipt indicating payment of the state duty. Its size is 800 rubles.
  3. Copy of the passport.

If you plan to open a chain of stores, you will need to register as a legal entity. This procedure from “a” to “z” with all the nuances is described on the official resource of the fiscal authorities.

Opening this business from scratch is a relatively simple process with an optimal level of costs. It is carried out according to a standard scheme and, although it is considered an ordinary and uninteresting matter, with the right approach it will allow you to turn the product being sold into a stable and impressive source of income. We hope you now know how to open a bed linen store and how much it will cost.

  • Business for women with minimal investment

Having already opened a retail outlet or just opening one, it is necessary to take into account the level of competition in the market. Considering the retail trade, we can already say that it is almost impossible to find a “place in the sun” in a low-competitive niche; for one simple reason they simply do not exist. As a result, any trader must and simply must work, taking into account three main factors:

  • - always calculate and “keep an eye on” the work of competitors, that is, be on the wave.
  • - continuously work on the assortment, developing a product range that satisfies the buyer as much as possible;
  • - look for options and ways to maximize “personalization” of your own store and provide the maximum range of additional services required by the buyer.

The last two points make it possible to form a store “brand” among consumers and subsequently ensure a constant flow of customers.

If the question seems to be clear regarding the assortment and nomenclature, then how to provide an additional set of services. It turns out that everything is quite simple, of course, if you think about it and show a little creativity. Leading and calculating, we walked the beaten path, and now let’s look at three very specific steps that make it possible not only to create a “brand” for the store.

Step one, expanding the choice for buyers.

Most clients of a bed linen store come to buy a finished product, an obvious fact. But what if you offer your customers not only to buy ready-made bed linen sets, but also to order the set to be sewn? In this case, the buyer will be able to choose not only the color, but also specify a number of additional “chips”, for example, underwear with the inscription “for the beloved” or something else. In addition to such original ideas as inscriptions, ordering non-standard sizes will be quite interesting for bed linen buyers. Non-standard bed linen sizes have recently become a real headache for many households. As we all know, today a fairly large number of beds are ordered individually, as a result the latter have quite different sizes, the result being a slight “mismatch” between the bed linen and the beds themselves. Plus, it’s worth remembering one more nuance: most ready-made bed linen sets come to us from China or Turkey, and there they really like to “cheat” a little and there are errors in each declared size. In the best cases, for example, the width and length are taken “in a dirty way”, that is, taking into account the fabric used for edging, then the set is only 0.5-1 cm less than declared, in the worst case it is simply 3-5 cm less.

You offer clients the production of a set of underwear of the required size and, of course, color. Such a service will cost the store itself relatively little, namely:

Additional costs for custom tailoring of bed linen

Name Amount) Price (rubles) Total (rubles)
Sewing machine
Desktop
Fabric cutting table
Fabric (20 types, 5 meters each)
Total ***** *****

It is worth noting that at the initial stage we purchase 20 different colors of fabric of different types, 5 meters each, in this case the average purchase price will be at least 300 rubles per meter. Such prices will not give you the opportunity to earn a lot; at best, the profitability of each set will be 5-10%, because in addition to the fabric itself, you also need to take into account the cost of the seamstress’s wages. You can really make good money by purchasing fabric in bulk, which will actually reduce the purchase price of fabric by 2 times, but in this case you need to buy at least one roll.

Such an expansion of the assortment will require additional space; in the sales area it is necessary to place a separate shelf of fabrics and plus 5-6 squares for the seamstress herself. Regarding the placement of the seamstress, you can go with two options: either work as a home worker (then you don’t need to use the space in the store, although it’s a household one, but there will be no control over the work process), or allocate space in the utility rooms, the only important condition will be the presence of good lighting.

The appearance of such a service will increase gross revenue by 15-20%.

Step two, restoration services for blankets and pillows.

Having your own bed linen store, you should also think about related services for the restoration of pillows and blankets; I won’t describe all the pros and cons; there is a whole series of articles on this business idea with, and. In a nutshell, I’ll tell you just a few facts you’ll need:

  • - a room measuring 5-6 square meters, separate from the sales area and with its own ventilation system;
  • - you will need to invest an additional amount of 40,000 rubles;

Actually, that’s all, but for the process of blowing itself (that is, restoration), it is quite possible to train one or more sellers. This combination will allow you to attract both new customers through restoration clients, and will provide a stable profit from the restoration itself by attracting bed store clients to the process of cleaning pillows.

Due to this innovation, gross revenue will increase by 10-15%.

Step three, additional products.

In a standard bed linen store you can find many different additional products and it already seems that it will be difficult to surprise the buyer, especially since each new product requires space and large expenses for the initial investment, although of course the retail space is a priority from my point of view. It’s true that there is one type of product that will be practically impossible to find from your competitors, and what do you think it is?

The answer is painfully banal, the usual feather and fluff. Almost all stores sell ready-made products that already contain a certain mixture and a certain amount of it. And who is stopping you from starting to sell feather and down by weight, especially since at the second stage you have already opened your own workshop for restoring pillows and it will not be difficult for you to make a pillow of the required size from pure feather, down or a mixture. Moreover, in addition to pillows, you can also make first-class duvets, while simultaneously offering the client any amount of filling at his request.

  1. To do this, we offer down and feathers by the kilogram - the buyer buys the required quantity and makes either a mixture (for pillows) or pure down for a blanket.
  2. We offer types of teak and sell teak itself.
  3. Buyer pays for net fabrication services.

The costs for such an addition will be small and consist solely of the cost of purchased down and feathers; it is advisable to purchase different types one at a time - two bags (approximate weight 20 kg).

Such an innovation will fill several retail shelves and does not require any more additions.

The store's revenue can grow up to 20% due to individual orders and the sale of all related products, including bedding sets.

Due to the three steps listed above, your bed linen store will increase gross revenue by at least 50%; if parity is maintained, this will also increase your profit; calculations of the business plan for such a store are here.

It is interesting that the payback of each of the additional directions for the bed business is an order of magnitude higher than the payback of the trade itself.

We will evaluate the bed linen trade itself here and in the same article we will consider how much it is worth thinking about such a business.
